When I felt called to pursue a different path, I chose to embrace the journey. With time, I began to see how each step, whether easy or challenging, fit into a greater plan at work.
In 2020, at 34 years old, I enlisted in the Army National Guard. At that stage in my life, I was searching for purpose, connection and something bigger than myself. Having played football for years, including at the college and Semi-Pro levels, I missed the camaraderie of being part of a team with a shared mission. The Guard brought that sense of belonging back into my life.
This wasn’t my first attempt at enlisting. Back in 2011, I had tried to join, but the timing wasn’t right. I was focused on building a career and managing projects in the HVAC and plumbing world. Looking back, I can see that not everything has to happen on our timetable. Years later, I was older, more established, and ready. I believe God placed the Guard back on my path, and this time, I followed.
Basic training was no easy feat, especially being nearly a decade older than most of my peers. I had doubts, but it was exactly what I needed. It tested me, pushed me, and ultimately proved that I could take on something big, uncertain, and uncomfortable, and come out stronger.
Stepping into real estate full-time required a similar leap of faith. I was getting engaged to my wife, Julia, preparing to move to Indianapolis, and walking away from a steady job. I prayed hard about the timing and logistics. It felt like one of those moments when God places an opportunity in front of you and asks you to trust Him.
I earned my real estate license in 2019, originally to support my own investing goals. That role had me in and out of homes, talking with sellers, property managers, and investors. My passion kept growing, and I began helping with traditional transactions part-time until one pivotal moment changed everything.
I was in a basement with a homeowner looking at a furnace when my managing broker called with a $500,000 lead. By the time I called back, the opportunity was gone. I realized I’d missed out on what could’ve been months of my salary. Sitting in my truck, I made the decision: I wasn’t going to miss another chance like that again. I was going all in!
From that point forward, the pieces started falling into place. I got married, moved to Indianapolis, and went full-time with Hoosier REALTORS®. I also found a niche in land, and began branding myself as the Hoosier Land Guy. My experiences also gave me a heart for serving military, law enforcement, first responders, and healthcare professionals; people who dedicate their lives to others, and whom I am honored to support in return.
Real estate allows me to blend my construction knowledge, project management background, and the leadership and discipline forged in the military to help clients succeed. Each year since starting, even with time away for Guard training, my business has grown. I’m grateful for the people I get to serve, and for the trust they show by coming back to me and referring their family and friends.
In 2025, Julia and I welcomed our son, Colby, into the world. Becoming a dad gave me an even deeper sense of purpose. I’m thankful for the time I have with him and for Julia’s opportunity to move into part-time nursing. Together, we keep family and faith at the center of everything we do, while focusing on serving others and making a positive impact.
Looking back, I see God’s hand guiding me down different paths, each leading toward the same purpose: using what I’ve learned to help others. That, to me, is the greatest blessing.
Before real estate, I worked in construction, HVAC, plumbing, and project management, giving me a hands-on understanding of how homes are built and maintained. As an Engineer Officer in the Army National Guard, I lead soldiers, manage millions of dollars in equipment, and solve complex problems in challenging environments.
Real estate decisions are important, and they often come with pressure, unexpected issues, and a lot of moving parts. My background has taught me to stay calm, focus on solutions, and keep challenges in perspective. Inspection surprises, financing concerns, and tough negotiations do not have to become overwhelming obstacles. They are problems to work through with the right plan, clear communication, and steady guidance.
That same mindset shapes how I serve my clients. I do not just open doors, walk clients through houses, and point out finishes. I use my technical background to identify potential concerns, highlight strengths, and help protect my clients’ investments. I am comfortable discussing real numbers, repair costs, bids, and bottom lines. My mission is simple: to make your experience clear, straightforward, and successful. Let’s take the next step together and make it happen.
Sincerely,
Bob Magiera
